INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY
On Wednesday 8th March 2016 we joined members of Nottingham City and Netherfield WI's to plant a Lime Tree in the then recently opened Gedling County Park to commemorate the event. It was a freezing cold wet and muddy day, but our spirits were not dampened and we even managed a tuneful rendition of Jerusalem after admiring our handiwork.
On Wednesday 8th March 2017 we joined members of Nottingham City and Netherfield WI's to present a bench to Gedling Country Park to commemorate the event.
The inscription on the bench is from a poem by James Oppenheim to celebrate the movement for women's rights, 'Bread and Roses', an anthem for women around the world
"....... As we go marching, marching, we bring the greater days, for the rising of the women means the rising of the race ........." (1911)
